The Soul of A Poet

The Songs and Poems of Henry Lawson
Chloë & Jason Roweth, with special guest Matt Nightingale on double bass, explore the work of 'The People’s Poet', Henry Lawson (1867-1922), revealing him as a flawed genius, a creative artist, a revolutionary and a humanist. Their show features their own original musical settings, and evocative use of dance music from Lawson’s (and the Roweths') home country, central-west NSW, as accompaniment to recitations of Lawson's poetry. "His writing left us smiling at its beauty, hurting with its pain, stunned at the degree of empathy he could generate inside us, and warmed by the bush humour – so wonderfully dry, sharp and subtle.” - Jason Roweth

"This is one of those rare shows that you want to go on forever – and when you leave, you realise it does anyway. Utterly unforgettable.” - Kim Kelly, Writer
"Chloë and Jason Roweth's new album, ‘The Soul of a Poet’, is an exquisite reimagining of some of Henry Lawson’s sharpest and most soulful words. Australian bush music as you’ve never heard it before – truly, do yourself a favour.” - Kim Kelly, Writer
